Aaron Stewart has a passion for all things design and has worked most of his career in the home category. With a brand-new BFA in Home Products Development from the Fashion Institute of Technology, Aaron was hired as a designer for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia’s Signature home collection. He then became Creative Director of luxury bedding company Sferra and later returned to MSLO as VP of Product Development and Design. After 19 years of New York City winters, Aaron convinced his husband, Fernando, that they should move back to his home town of San Juan, Puerto Rico, where they launched an award-winning home store and interior design firm. Seven years later, they love their balmy island life!

Shopping for hand sanitizer just a week before COVID-19 arrived, Aaron Stewart wondered why a product carried every day by so many people looked like it came from a hospital supply closet. Couldn’t it be stylish and cool instead of clinical? And why was every bottle made to be used once then immediately tossed or recycled? He imagined a beautifully designed, fashionable, sustainable system for personal sanitizing products, and friends agreed that it was a great concept—and timely. The long pandemic shutdown turned out to be the perfect opportunity for Aaron to immerse himself in learning a complex new industry. He assembled a team of former colleagues who were experts in their fields and shared his vision for the product: that it be safe, effective, and stylish; that it minimize waste and environmental impact; and that as much product as possible be made in the U.S.A., including his beloved Puerto Rico. And Portococo was born!
